Some of the best places for inexpensive shopping are street markets
, and the Temple Street Night Market is one of them. It is located in Yau Ma Tei
, the Jordan area, not far from the Nathan Road. The market is well-known with locals and tourists as a very good place for bargain shopping. If you come there at 4 or 5pm, you'll see that the stalls just begin to be opened. But at night the Temple Street really comes alive as cars disappear and vendors already conveniently settle down on both sides of the street. Numerous stalls offer a wide range of inexpensive goods, such as clothes (men's, women's, kids wear, T-shirts, jeans, jackets), shoes, kid's toys, leather goods, watches, electronic products, jade, DVDs and souvenirs. Be prepared to bargain and haggle. Remember, the original price is mostly the starting point and don't forget to haggle to get a better price.
If you have already visited the Ladies Market
, you'll see that the Temple Street in Kowloon is similar, but a range and type of goods are different with less clothing items for women and more focused on men. That is why it is also called "Men's Street". Anyway, this market and surrounding areas are worth a visit. In addition, it is a great place to try local food. Local restaurants nearby offer the tasty dishes, such as wonton noodles, dim sum or dumplings. Have a look where the most of locals eat. A restaurant or cafe with a large amount of locals is probably the best place to eat. Also, there is the Jade Market
within two blocks (at the junction of Kansu and Battery Streets) where you can buy jade items, like bracelets or souvenirs. But it starts opening at 9-10am and remains open till 5-6pm.
1. Do not forget about haggling to get a better price. Most vendors will accept about a half or even more of the original asking price. An exception is unique product.
2. Almost all brands are usually fakes.
