Ferries are an effective form of transportation between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Besides, they are the only transport to the Outlying Islands, such as Lamma Island, Cheung Chau Island or Peng Chau Island.
Below is the list of popular ferry routes.

Ferry Services between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island

Star Ferry

The Star Ferry is not only a cost effective mode of transportation, but also it is a world-famous sightseeing trip between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. There are two routes: Tsim Sha Tsui ‹‹ ›› Central and Tsim Sha Tsui ‹‹ ›› Wan Chai. These services across Victoria Harbour run daily from early morning till 11-11:30pm with a frequency every 6-20 minutes. The journey takes about 8-10 minutes.

Service Hours:
Tsim Sha Tsui ‹‹ ›› Central: 6:30am - 11:30pm. Frequency: 6-12 mins.
Tsim Sha Tsui ›› Wan Chai: 7:20am - 10:50pm (Mon - Sat); 7:30am - 10:50pm (Sun and P.H.).
Wan Chai ›› Tsim Sha Tsui: 7:30am - 11:00pm (Mon - Sat); 7:40am - 11:00pm (Sun and P.H.).

North Point ‹‹ ›› Hung Hom

This service is operated by New World First Ferry Services Ltd. The journey takes about 8-9 minutes and ferries run every 30 minutes.

North Point ‹‹ ›› Kowloon City

This service is operated by New World First Ferry Services Ltd. The journey takes about 14-15 minutes and ferries run every 30 minutes.

North Point ›› Kowloon City: 7:17am - 7:17pm.

Ferry Services to the Outlying Islands

Ferries to the Outlying Islands depart from the Central Ferry Piers. You can easily get there by Star Ferry, MTR or taxi. If you are in the southern part of Tsim Sha Tsui, take the Star Ferry and you will arrive at the Central Ferry Pier #7. In order to get there by MTR, take the MTR and get to the Central MTR station. Get out of the station through Exit A, make a U-turn and walk over the footbridge along Man Yiu street.
Pier 2 to Ma Wan (Park Island);
Pier 3 to Discovery Bay (Lantau Island);
Pier 4 to Yung Shue Wan & Sok Kwu Wan (Lamma Island);
Pier 5 to Cheung Chau Island;
Pier 6 to Mui Wo (Lantau Island) & Peng Chau Island;
Pier 7 to Tsim Sha Tsui.

Some ferry routes offer fast ferries or slower ones that provide a better look at sights near the harbour areas.

Central ‹‹ ›› Lamma Island

Located south-west of Hong Kong Island, Lamma Island is a nice way to spend a half a day. In order to get to the island, simply take a ferry at the Central Ferry Pier #4 in Central. Lamma Island is served by two main ferry terminals, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. Ferries between Central and Yung Shue Wan run every 20-30 minutes in the morning and evening, and every 45-60 minutes during the daytime. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Ferries between Central and Sok Kwu Wan run every 75-120 minutes, and the journey takes 30-40 minutes.
Both routes are operated by Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Holdings Ltd. (HKKF).

Central ‹‹ ›› Cheung Chau Island

This ferry route is operated by New World First Ferry Services Ltd., and there are two types of ferry services, which serve Cheung Chau Island. Both are located at the Central Ferry Pier #5 in Central. The first are ordinary ferry services and the journey takes about an hour. The second are fast ferry services and the journey takes about 40 minutes. Ferries run every 20-50 minutes.

Cheung Chau Island ›› Central: 05:10am - 02:20am.

Central ‹‹ ›› Peng Chau Island

Ferries to Peng Chau Island depart from the Central Ferry Pier #6. There are two types: ordinary ferry services and fast ferry services. The journey on an ordinary ferry takes about 40 minutes, on a fast ferry takes about 30 minutes. Ferries run daily with a frequency every 20-60 minutes.
The route is operated by Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Holdings Ltd. (HKKF).

Central ›› Peng Chau Island: 7:00am - 12:30am.
Peng Chau Island ›› Central: 5:30am - 11:30pm.

Central ‹‹ ›› Mui Wo (Silvermine Bay)

Mui Wo is a rural place on the eastern side of Lantau Island. It is famous for its beach, named Siver Mine Bay Beach, which is within 15 minutes on foot from the Mui Wo Ferry Pier. The beach is a popular place among residents during the summer months. Ferries to Mui Wo depart from the Central Ferry Pier #6. The journey on an ordinary ferry takes about an hour. The journey on a fast ferry takes about 40 minutes. Ferries run daily with a frequency every 30-50 minutes.
